This is my first response ever to a newsletter. I see no
reason for any new laws, nor new bureaucrats to enforce
them.

If a person elects to invest $70.00, or what ever it is, in
hopes it will be worth more to someone else later, more
power too him. If the asking price is too high, let them
keep it . No telling how many people are out there sitting
on something they thought would make them rich but will
never even get their money back. Competition is what has
made this Nation the greatest the world has ever known.

As for the person that used amazons they surely knew going
in it was borderline and made hay while the sun shone, when
the big guns came after them they probably negotiated as
best they could and went on to something else. I am
certainly glad the government did not pass any laws against
the automobile industry to protect the buggy whip
manufacturers.

Thanks and keep putting out the best Ezine out there.

Yours Truly,

Your name is Brian, SO IS MINE.. Whom owns the higher right
to the name Brian?

However, "hypothetically" let's say we both have a site at
pretend.com. I call mine 'brian'  http://pretend.com/brian,
therefore how can you make another one called 'brian'
without it being intervened by my listing? Yes sure, you can
use caps 'BRIAN', but most sites refuse it due to
registration/user confusion... But, you're welcome to put
'brian2' etc.  Also, common skill of ftp protocol allows you
to make subdirectories, eg, pretend.com/gapletter/brian,
this saves much argument and only requires a slight additive
in address line size.

However, this is not the main issue, your issue is copyright
hording of names, and as long as the horder registers those
names they own title to them.  Therefore, if its proven they
have not utilized them and are clearly seen as hoarding
them, then your objective is to prove/satisfy the copyright
registrar that they are dummy addresses used primarily for
hoarding, thus restricting others from legitimate usage.
Futhermore, in such argument you could suggest you might
spend a year listing alphabetical names to register and
register almost every possible site name, stating that their
inaction is an encouragement to do so, thereby your
ownership of so many would almost qualify you to be the
registrar of copyright, change your name to NEThorder...
I'm sure though, if you state your case the registrar will
look in to it and deregister any horders thus deregistering
any of their unutilised names and keep a futuristic eye on
them ..

Last point, pretend.com and pretendonline.com and
pretendoffline.com are all differential, but, online is tied
to net protocol  even though legal to use, and would only
cause both parties confusion to both your detrements ..

MY ADVICE OR WISDOM IS THIS
--designing new names is fun and inventive ....

yours etc

Lester,

With regards to your question on affiliate marketing
resources .... here are 2 recent articles I wrote for my
"Web Tactics" column published in a Madison, WI business
newspaper.

"Affiliate Marketing" - <http://www.infostar.com/wm-bf.htm>
and another important topic -
"Permission Marketing" - <http://www.infostar.com/permiss.htm>

You will find access to lots of useful Web sites that cover
affiliate marketing after reading through the online version
of my articles.

Good luck.

Lester,

There actually are a number of companies that you can be an
affiliate of.  Many people believe that you simply put up
links and the money starts to roll in.  Nothing could be
farther from the truth.

The most important thing in ANY affiliate program is to
provide the links in context.  A good strong "advertorial"
from you can promote an affiliate partner very well.

As far as some of the companies that offer legitimate
service, I recommend the following:
<http://www.reporting.net>
<http://www.cj.com>
<http://www.websponsors.com>
<http://www.directleads.com>

Many of these also have affiliate programs attached to them,
where they will pay you money to recruit other webmasters to
their service.  I am a member of these programs, and if you
choose to sign up under me, you can visit
<http://www.fluffymoose.com/webdream/making.html> for links
to these sites and many others, as well as more information
on using affiliate links properly.

Otherwise, simply visit the links above and you will find
many programs that should compliment your site nicely.

A simple quick way of preventing most people from
downloading is to disable the right mouse click.

The folks over at <http://www.dynamicdrive.com> have lots of
really great free DHTML goodies that can be used by anyone
on their web pages.

The following script just needs pasting in at the start of
the body section of the page.

Hope this helps

Best regards
